I’ve only being crossfitting for a year, but, Crossfit 717 has completely changed my life. I was introduced to it by my best friends, and then introduced to a bunch of the 717 athletes at a party one evening. When I got to know them, I knew that they seemed closer than just people who work out together. In a way, they almost seem closer than friends. It’s a family. I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. When I started, I was pretty scared. All the athletes are so impressive, and I never thought I could even come close to them. I hadn’t exercised in a long time. In high school I had suffered with an eating disorder, so the thought of exercising, and in a competitive atmosphere no less, was terrifying to me. I didn’t want to relapse into my old ways. But, Crossfit was the most amazing thing I could have done. Even when I injured my knees, the coaches were unbelievably encouraging, and soon “never quit”- the mantra of Crossfit was ringing in my ears. After one year of Crossfit, I can’t imagine what my life would be like without it. I’ve lost a total of 70 pounds, and gone from a size 16 to an 8. I’ve never felt stronger, more fit, or happier in my life.  This is more than a gym. It’s more than just a place to work out. It’s somewhere I can go after (or before) a long day of work, get my ass kicked, and actually feel good about it. It’s the place where everyone belongs. No matter their size, age, athletic ability, etc. I can’t think of any other gym in which there is a penalty for not introducing yourself to a new face. I’ll do anything to avoid those burpees! I can’t thank the unbelievable coaches enough for the constant support and love I receive on a daily basis. It feels way better to hit a PR on a weight, workout, or even get a double under than it feels just to be skinny. Thank you, Crossfit 717, and most importantly, thank you to Aldo, Dan, Boggs, and Hobbit. I’m so grateful for your support and dedication to make all of us better athletes, and I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of the family.
